Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Texas, USA. She performed in competitions as a child, before getting her big break as the lead singer of girl-group Destiny’s Child in the late ‘90s. Soon, she made her solo debut with the album Dangerously in Love (2003), which marked her arrival as a musical force to reckon with. She earned five Grammy awards for this effort.
Rihanna was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados. She started out at the age of 15 by recording demo tapes, before signing a contract with Def Jam Recordings. By 2007, she had released her third album Good Girl Gone Bad which featured her breakout single Umbrella, making her a star.
After her band broke up in 2005, Beyoncé focused on her solo career and ventured into acting. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Showgirls (2006). In 2008, Beyoncé married rapper Jay-Z, and released her iconic I Am… Sasha Fierce album, featuring her alter ego. She won a record six Grammys, including Song of the Year for Single Ladies. Other chartbusting albums by Beyoncé include Beyoncé (2013) and the recent Lemonade (2016).
As one of the best-selling artists of all time, Rihanna has achieved much in her career. She has five platinum-certified albums under her belt, including Grammy award winning Unapologetic (2012), and the recent number-one album Anti (2016). Her singles like Diamonds, Disturbia, We Found Love, and others rank as the best-selling singles in the world. She has consistently won awards for her music and influence, including being one of Time magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” in 2012.
Queen Bey, as Beyoncé is popularly known, has been one to watch for her fashion prowess. She has also collaborated with several fashion brands in the past. Recognizing her fashion sense, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awarded her the Fashion Icon award recently. Rihanna is no slouch in the fashion department either. Renowned for reinventing her style and image ever so often, she was recognized by the CFDA in 2014 with the Fashion Icon award. Rihanna has several fashion collaborations to her credit, and was announced as the Creative Director of Puma’s women’s line. Recently, she launched a denim show line with Manolo Blahnik, and a line of futuristic sunglasses with Dior.
