Game of Style: Emilia Clarke

The striking Game of Thrones actress has had quite a style evolution…

Emilia Clarke is living the dream. Her breakout role as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s Game of Thrones, an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, has won her worldwide recognition and acclaim. Today, she is as much known for her character as she is for her expressive eyebrows and chic ensembles, both on and off screen.

Diminutive and bubbly, Clarke’s real personality is a far cry from her stern and calculating reel counterpart. The London-born lady always nurtured aspirations of becoming an actress, and pursued her dreams by attending the Drama Centre in London. Her career started on stage with plays and small roles in film and television. Her star quality was apparent though, and she was chosen as one of the “UK Stars of Tomorrow” by Screen International magazine in 2010. She has played the iconic role of the Targaryen heir for five seasons of the Game of Thrones series, and will also make an appearance in the penultimate season six. For her portrayal, she won the 2011 EWwy Award for Best Supporting Actress and was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2013 Emmy Awards. Since then, she has starred in big ticket films like Dom Hemingway with Jude Law, and recently appeared in Terminator Genisys as the eponymous Sarah Connor. In 2013, she reprised the iconic role of Holly Golightly for the Broadway version of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

When it comes to style and fashion, Clarke is an admitted enthusiast. While Daenerys wears medieval-chic cape dresses and flowing gowns, on the red carpet Clarke has a more contemporary look. Some of the labels she has been spotted in include Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Rosie Assoulin, along with many more British designers. She seems to favor monochrome palettes, though she has knocked the socks off her admirers by dressing up in punchy colors and sleek silhouettes. Her bold eyebrows are her signature, which she emphasizes with smoky makeup. When the occasion demands, a bold lip has also served her well at her high-profile appearances. Clarke has also shown her softer side by helping raising funds for charity. Along with her GoT co-stars, Clarke participated in NBC’s Red Nose Day telethon spearheaded by Coldplay. She even sang a reggae number to create awareness and raise donations for the cause.

As fans of the show await the next installment of the much-loved show, it is a given that Emilia Clarke’s reign on the small screen will continue!

“I’m just a girl who loves mascara.”

“My mother taught me how to apply my own makeup at 13 years old, and the most important lesson I learned is to never touch my eyebrows and to cleanse, tone, and moisturize twice a day.”

“Any opportunity to get into fashion and find a beautiful dress, I’m very definitely excited about that.”

“Me and heels are very good friends.”
