A man passion, Zak was born and raised to the sound of music. Naturally, he became a music lover and musician. Meet artist Zak Musawi who sings everywhere, and holds up his guitar for a trip to the moon.
Who is Zak Musawi?
I am a musician to the core. My name is Zakaria but I prefer to be called Zak. I play the guitar, sing, and write songs that are inspired from everything around me.
What makes you different from others?
I do not see myself different from others at all. I am a man who knows his passion in life. Other men have found their passion in different areas and it has become an integral part of them. I think I found myself in music; it gives me a wonderful feeling of peace and happiness on physical and emotional levels.
What the three most important elements in your life?
1-Music: it occupies the first place in my life, whether by listening or performing. My life thrives and continues because of it.
2- Drawing: it was my first hobby. I used to express myself through it.
3- Football: Every child who grew up here had football taking over a large part of their life and youth! I used to love Maradona, who I think is one of the greatest players in the history of the game. Today I am a fan of FC Barcelona.
How did you enter the world of music?
I do not remember a single day when music was not part of my life. I grew up with parents who love and listen to music daily; both Arabic and Western. My mom bought my brother and me a small digital piano from Casio. I loved it. I liked the soundtracks in cartoons and I used to try and play it on the digital piano. And when my brother started to listen to famous rock bands such as Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, I was obsessed with them. I asked my mother to buy me a guitar and she did. At first the guitar was just a decoration in my room, but I bought a book to learn to play it and for years I would train in my room after school. That was the beginning.
Who is an elegant man from your point of view?
I do not think that there is a precise definition for an elegant man. Elegance has nothing to do with wealth or poverty. It’s about learning or ignorance. For me it is the way a man shows his self to people around him.
Who is your role model?
I try not to make anyone a role model, but Jon Bon Jovi is one of the most influential figures in my life. He is not only famous for his music but also for being a real man, a father, and a human being. Jon Bon Jovi has a series of restaurants named Soul Kitchen where the menu has no price and the customer can pay what he wants. If one does not have money to eat, they can eat and work there to pay off the value of the meal. This is real humanity.
You can play a lot of musical instruments. Which is closest to your heart?
My guitar of course. I take it with me wherever I go. It is a friend who never abandons me and listens fully to what I want from him.
What has music taught you?
It taught me how to unite with myself as it involves the senses. Personally it taught me the art of listening.
Does music make you another human being?
Music is an integral part of my life; I could not be someone else with it. The only thing that changes is the moment and the details.
Beauty lies in the simple things around us: the movement of the sea, a baby’s smile. It’s not necessarily related to a man or woman. But if you want to define beauty in humans it’s what comes from inside.

Not yet, but there is a woman in my life. I derive from her my inspiration in all fields of life, not just music.
Do you see music in the future of your children?

Which designer would you pick for a suit?
Is there a place you’ve visited and found it unforgettable?
After graduating from high school I traveled alone to Europe. I rode the bus in Italy to see it from the north to the south. On the bus there were many tourists who did not speak my language, but I was able to communicate with them through smiles and gestures. I can say that I became a man in that special trip.
If you were not a musician what would you be?
I would probably be a veterinarian. I love animals very much.
